Centserver services garage doors for homeowners across Huntington Beach and the neighbouring Orange County cities. Springs, cables, rollers, tracks, seals, openers, the usual list. What makes our days a little different from the next company’s is that we pay attention to a second door while we are there.

Almost every house we visit has an attached garage, and an attached garage has a doorway into the living space. That doorway is part of a separation between where the cars, the fuel, the paint and the water heater live, and where people sleep. Most owners have no idea it is treated differently from the bedroom doors. That is not carelessness, nobody tells them.

So we look at it. It takes about a minute. Does it close by itself, does it latch, does it sound solid when you knock on it, has anybody cut a hole through it. Four questions, and in the older tract housing around Warner Avenue and Brookhurst Street a surprising number of houses fail at least one.

How We Work

• Hardware is our lane. We fit doors, spring hinges, closers, latches and strikes, and we service the overhead door. That is what we are good at and it is what we quote on.
• Structure is not. Walls, ceilings, penetrations, framing and anything a building official will sign off belongs with a licensed general contractor. We are not fire code inspectors and we will not pretend otherwise.
• We tell you when not to spend. If the door you already have is correct and only the latch is out of line, that is a small job, and we would rather say so than sell you a slab.
• Coastal reality. Salt air chews hinge pins, closer arms and cable strands faster here than a few miles inland. We factor that into what we recommend.
